SCC Writes To First Minister On Prospect Of Level 4 Restrictions

17th November 2020

SCC has today urged the First Minister to allow businesses that can trade safely to continue to do so, particularly where the data shows that it is safe. If more stringent restrictions are announced, SCC stressed the importance of allocating and distributing grants support immediately as well as publishing the evidence to back up any restrictions on businesses.

SCC also called on the Scottish Government to increase the investment of Test and Protect Systems with specific focus on increasing the number of tests, turnaround times for results and initiating plans to introduce the ability for businesses to test on premises to pre-clear employees, and customers quickly.

SCC’s letter comes as the First Minister believed it was "likely" but "not inevitable" that some areas would be moved into Level 4. She said infection rates were still "stubbornly high" in some areas. Ms Sturgeon said the council areas in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, with the possible exception of Inverclyde, were causing the most concern, along with North and South Lanarkshire.

The First Minister will deliver the announcement on Tuesday 17th November, with any additional restrictions coming into effect at 6am on Friday 20th November. Read letter
