Keeping the UK Paid
8th September 2020
Thomson Cooper Accountants are celebrating National Payroll Week (7 – 11 September) by sharing the experiences and insight they have gained as payroll professionals. The annual event was created by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) with the aim of raising awareness about how the payroll industry supports the economy.
Cutting edge software, online access and digitization have revolutionized the way people are paid and how Government income is collected. However, payroll is an aspect of everyday working life that is sometimes overlooked. Classified as ‘key workers’ during the pandemic, teams of salary superheroes worked tirelessly throughout to ensure payrolls ran smoothly and that employees received the correct pay.
Partner Elaine Cromwell, Head of Business Support Services explains, ‘Our industry has seen considerable changes as a result of covid-19. The volume of legislation with the Job Retention Scheme and Government funding initiatives has been challenging but we are fortunate to have an experienced team to deal with these issues. I’m looking forward to sharing, through a series of articles on social media, our experiences during lockdown, giving tips on running an accurate payroll and a light-hearted surprise at the end of the week. You’ll need to check our social media channels to see what that is!’
